DEGLOBALIZATION IN ACTION: WHAT'S NEXT FOR BRANDS AND BORDERS?

🌐 𝗥𝗲-𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ??

The map of global trade is again set to be re-drawn in the coming months.

US trade tariffs, retaliation from China …together with concerns from the rest of the world will likely speed up a process of de-globalization that has been in full effect since Covid.

From 2020 to 2024, China took over as the leading trade partner for most of the world. Should US tariffs go into full-effect globally, China is almost certain to consolidate its trade advantages further.

Will China step into the void being created by the US …and help reverse the current de-globalization movement? 𝑹𝒆-𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.

Or, will we simply see Cold War style trading blocks materialize? 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏

In the latest episode of Commerce Beyond Borders, with my co-host Renee Hartmann, we discussed the effects of trade tariffs on Asia, China, Europe and the Americas.

You’ll hear firsthand insights from:

  • A digital marketing conference in Seoul with execs from Coupang, Pinterest, and Teradata

  • Retail presentations in Europe spotlighting innovation hotspots in Asia

  • Conversations around the future of U.S.-China trade, manufacturing shifts, and consumer sentiment

🔍 What we cover:

  • Why the global retail map is redrawing — and why China is now the #1 trade partner for most countries

  • How Korean and Chinese brands are outpacing U.S. brands in product innovation and speed to market

  • Why tariffs may unintentionally fuel more overseas shopping by American tourists

  • The evolution of physical retail spaces in Asia — where storytelling and experience come first

  • The shift from globalization to regional trading blocs and what it means for global strategy
